Excitement
Comhar Chuigéal is a facilities provider for Coláiste Spleodair, an Irish language college that organises active, student-centred courses. To ensure that all students reach their full potential, they spend a maximum amount of time at the College. Students attend two and a half hours of class every morning from Monday to Saturday with qualified teachers. The curriculum is highly interactive, with an emphasis on oral language and student participation. A wide range of activities take place in the afternoon: art, craft, sport, music, water sports, dance and many more.

Islands Senior Center
The day care centre in LetterMullen for older people provides essential services and support for its participants, enhancing their quality of life and social connections. The provision of a mini-bus to collect participants from their homes ensures accessibility for those who may have difficulty with transportation. This service enables them to attend important appointments, go shopping, and enjoy fun day outings. Twice a week, the participants gather at the day care centre, providing them with opportunities to socialise, connect with others, and engage in various activities. From playing cards and bingo to participating in arts and crafts. Additionally, the centre serves as a hub for participants to catch up with one another, share stories, and offer mutual support.

Digital Mapping of Graveyards in Ceantar na nOileáin
Mapping the cemeteries of Ceantar na nOileán with the assistance of volunteers, and the local people's knowledge and expertise regarding local place names and customs. It is a collaboration of engaging with our community through research and local oral history.
The survey techniques applied ensure that accurate data relating to graveyards is recorded and this data is flexible and can be adapted for future use, including online and mobile applications and academic research.
We carried out a drone survey on 6 graveyards/burial sites which will be compatible with online desktop mapping and the Galway County Council Heritage Site.
Graveyard mapping is also essential for visitors/families who are carrying out research for ancestry purposes. This mapping project will offer virtual or satellite images of the grounds and photos of the headstones plus descriptions of types of graves and materials used.
- Béal a’ Daingean Graveyard.
- Eanach Mheáin Graveyard.
- Leitir Móir Graveyard.
- Trá Bháin Graveyard.
- Reilig an tSean Bhaile, Graveyard.
- Cuigéal Graveyard.
When completed Graveyard Maps will be put in place in all graveyards.
This is a legacy project, important in terms of preserving our heritage and culture and will have a great impact in Ceantar nOileán and the South Connemara region as well as the wider diaspora.
Over 40,000 graveyard memorial records are now being released as part of the Galway County Digital Mapping of Graveyards Project. The project aims to support our diaspora & communities to connect with their past by unlocking valuable graveyard information and making it available as open-source data that will be free to use—funded by Galway County Council, GRD Forum Connemara and the Heritage Council and with the advice and support of Marie Mannion, Heritage Officer, Galway Co Council and Christy Cunniffe (County Archaeologist).
