Letter Mullen & Garumna Heritage Centre

This centre is situated in Letter Mullen, which is part of the Gaeltacht region. The Gaeltacht regions have special status as places where traditional arts and the Irish language is still spoken by the inhabitants daily.

This centre showcases the rich history and culture of the islands, which have been inhabited for over 4,000 years.

The museum displays various artefacts and photographs related to education, religion, folklore, and the daily life of the islanders. You can also see a replica of a traditional thatched cottage, which gives you a glimpse of how people lived in the past. Additionally, you can browse through a collection of written/printed historical collection of books, CDs, DVDs, and souvenirs celebrating the Irish language and culture.

A Museum and Beyond

One of the highlights of visiting the centre is the opportunity to interact with John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Confhaola, the local historian, and other locals, who are very friendly and welcoming. They are eager to share their stories and traditions with you and teach you some words and phrases in Irish.

The Letter Mullen & Garumna Heritage Centre is open all year round from 10 am to 2 pm. If you need to visit at another time, you can always contact us and we will be happy to open at a time that's convenient for you.
